SEXINESS SELLS
Scarlett Johansson has still got it. Seven years after being named Esquire magazine’s sexiest woman alive, the newlywed (French journalistRomain Dauriac has the honors) clinched the title again. The ex-Mrs. Ryan Reynolds, just 28, joked that she wasn’t sure how long her wow factor would last and that soon she’d be getting offered mother roles. “Then they just sort of stop.”
The November issue hits stands Oct. 15.
FACING THE MUSIC
Environmental activist Erin Brockovich has pleaded no contest to operating a boat while intoxicated after her arrest at Lake Mead. She was ordered to take an online boater safety course and complete 25 hours of community service. Records show she paid a $750 fine on the spot.
Brockovich was arrested in June at a marina on the Colorado River reservoir after a game warden noticed she was struggling while trying to moor her motorboat. Breath tests showed her blood-alcohol level was just over twice the legal driving limit.
HOLLYWOOD TRAGEDY
Could River Phoenix still be among us? With his tragic death’s 20th anniversary approaching on Halloween, a new book, Last Night at the Viper Room, by Rolling Stone writer Gavin Edwards, alleges that the actor should and would still be alive today if the people he was with had called for help sooner. Phoenix, 23, was at the top of his game when he collapsed outside the infamous L.A. nightclub.
In an excerpt published in The New York Daily News, River, who was out with younger siblings Joaquinand Rain, drank a mixture of heroin and cocaine, which caused him to vomit. Instead of someone phoning 911 immediately, the Stand by Me star was led out to the street, where he collapsed.
Miley Cyrus isn’t getting scalding reviews for a change.
The controversial pop star commanded the stage as guest host on Saturday Night Live, with a notably funny sketch as a coffee-mug-wielding co-anchor of the fictional Mornin’ Miami show. Cyrus, along with cast members Bobby Moynihan and Kate McKinnon, play exhausted TV personalities who perk up just in time for their over-the-top on-camera promos.
The sketch is not to be confused with Good Morning Miami, an NBC sitcom about a low-rated show that ran from 2002 to 2004.
For anyone who cares at this point, Miley’s endlessly promoted album Bangerz is out Tuesday.
The 20-year-old gave a last-ditch effort to promote it on Today, telling Matt Lauer she’ll stop being sexual at age 40, and quipped that, at 55, the veteran anchor was “really definitely not sexual.”
TABLE FOR TWO
Jodie Foster has a new lady in her life, reports Celebuzz.com. The Oscar winner and photographerAlexandra Hedison were spotted sharing breakfast in Beverly Hills over the weekend. Hedison was linked to Ellen DeGeneres a few years back (when she was single). Foster amicably split from longtime love, movie production manager Cydney Bernard, in 2008. They share custody of two sons.
